After a scandalous relationship between her best friend and a well-loved college professor, nineteen-year-old California Stinger (Cali) drops out of her prestigious dream school and moves back in with her mother in Holland, Michigan. Feeling both jaded and defeated, Cali has been labeled as the “girl who cried wolf,” as her best friend refused to testify.

Back in the midwest, Cali enrolls in a few community college classes. During an obligatory Transfer Student Mixer, Cali is introduced to Ben and Lyla, a not-quite couple in a perpetual situationship. Grateful for any form of friendship, Cali accepts an invitation to Lyla’s birthday party. The day of the party, Cali notices that Ben is acting strangely. In sociology class, he openly makes a pass at Cali, commenting on how good she smells.

That evening, the night of the full moon, Ben lures Cali up to Lyla’s bedroom. Intoxicated and delirious, Cali finds herself in Lyla’s bed with Ben. Without warning, Ben pins Cali down and takes a bite of flesh from her right hip. She watches in drunken horror as he chews and swallows, realizing he doesn’t want to have sex with her–he wants to kill her.

Cali fights Ben off and narrowly escapes the party. Ben confesses to Cali that he’s a werewolf– and now so is she. He encourages her to end her suffering immediately. Cali writes Ben off as delusional. But twenty-eight days later, on the next full moon, Cali wakes up to realize something is very wrong. Will California succumb to her wolfish nature like Ben did? Or can she find a way to protect herself and others from the disease that has taken hold?
